___ TEACHING THE “DO”
Why is the word Taekwon-Do split between Taekwon and -Do?
Taekwon-Do was written as such, as it joined the two physical parts of the art together, utilizing the dash (-) or hyphen to not only separate them from the non-physical mental aspects of the art, but to allow the “Do” to stand off by itself, as that was what he would say is the most important part of the art.

STEP SPARRING WITH A PARTNER (BACKWARDS AND FORWARDS)
Purpose of 3 Step Sparring:
The purpose three step sparring is to introduce the student to new basic movements and stances, therefore there is a relation between three step sparring and patterns
Setting up for 3 Step Sparring

Attacker performs measure and steps back into Parallel Stance

3. Attacker: Moving forward in walking stance perform 3 high punches
​
Defender: Stepping back with the right foot move backwards in walking stance while performing 3 rising blocks over the lead leg
Counter: While grasping attacker’s right hand with left hand step with the right foot forward and to the right on about a 45 degree angle to form a sitting stance while executing a high inward knife-hand strike with the right hand to the temple. Stepping back into a left walking stance low forearm block

4. Attacker: Moving forward in walking stance perform 3 middle punches
Defender: Stepping back with the right foot move backwards in a L stance while performing 3 twin forearm blocks
Counter: Front leg left piercing side kick. Landing into a left walking stance low forearm block
